Our charitable organization believes in helping the people in need and make them lead a better life.
"We visited the Samity during the time of our coming here for the Mayor’s Conference held in Calcutta. The work of the Samity is really unique and at the same time very essential in the interest of humanity and health. The Samity, by their noble work, in fact do what it is the obligation of the authorities to do. During epidemics the Society provides a blessing.
I have, so far as I am aware, not heard of or seen a Society doing the work of the disposal of the dead bodies of poor unclaimed persons or those from Police Morgues, Hospitals, Railways Port Trust and the like in such an extensive systematic and hygienic a manner as the Society. The Society has placed its position on a sound and permanent basis, having premises, Lorries etc., of its own and an efficient well-regulated staff and vigilant, through honorary supervision. We congratulate its founders and organisers."
Mayor, Bombay
"I had the pleasure of visiting the Hindu Satkar Samity yesterday. The Society has been organised for the disposal of dead bodies of the poor and uncared for according to Hindu rites. I understand that during the last session they have done yeomen’s service by properly arranging for the cremation of dead bodies which were lying on the pavements of Calcutta. In Madras too, there are a few organisation doing this kind of work. However, I feel that the public, Govt. and the Corporation must favourably help such benevolent institutions to do their work very well."
Mayor, Madras
"I was very much impressed with the activities of Hindu Satkar Samity. The manner and method in which they dispose of unclaimed dead bodies in the city deserves great admiration at the heads of the public. They have a regular organisation for this purpose. As far as my knowledge goes there is no other institution in India working on the same lines. The philanthropic work is admirable. I am confident the Samity will continue to render their selfless service to this good and noble cause.""
Ex–Mayor, Karachi
"The Hindu Satkar Samity is performing an essential service to the community in Calcutta and suburbs by cremating dead bodies of indigent and helpless families. This is a unique service and perhaps the only well – organised Institution in the whole of India. The organisation deserves all help and co – operation to extend its activities in Calcutta and attached areas in Howrah. The Samity need to be helped in constructing light wheel ‘Push Push’ to carry bodies belonging to middle class respectable families who may not find men to carry the body to the Burning Ghat. Indeed this is a very useful organisation for our community."
Mayor, Calcutta
"We are extremely thankful to the Hindu Satkar Samity for giving us the opportunity of seeing round and personally acquainting ourselves of the many admirable activities of the Samity of a humanitarian nature.
We in Ceylon, especially the Sinhalese who claim our origin as a race in Bengal being descendants of that Prince Vijay Singh – were deeply moved and gravely concerned about the devastating famine that broke out in Bengal towards the latter half of 1943. It was during that time we had the chance of first knowing the excellent work carried on by this Samity. From that day we were closely watching the progress of this Samity, which to-day, on visiting Calcutta, we find still continuing its humanitarian work in a far more organised and larger scale.
We have every confidence that this Samity will continue giving its utmost in this selfless and noble cause."
Mayor, Galle (Ceylon)
"Every man in the world and much more a Hindu desires a decent burial when he dies. It is the greatest service that the living could do for the dead. This great and essential service is undertaken by the Hindu Satkar Samity for those Hindus who pass away in Calcutta with no one to care for them and give them a decent burial. I am quite certain that this institution will grow from strength to strength."
